Soul Food Tuesdays

This group meets for study and prayer on Tuesdays, 11:00-11:55 am (dismissed in time for 12:00 noon Mass).  The “content” of each four week block will be determined in consultation with the participants, but is focused on Christian mysticism and non-dualistic spirituality.  Participation in the group is OPEN.  One does not need to commit to attending every week.

Upcoming sessions:

April 3, 10, 17, 24 – “Faith and Contemporary Literature and Poetry”

April 3:  “Heavy” by Mary Oliver and “The Angels” by Fanny Howe

April 10:  “The Dead Do Not Improve” by Dan Hornsby.  Our discussion questions: How do your own imaginings of the afterlife affect how you think about punishment? Can you trace the relationship between heaven, hell, reward, and punishment in your own life?  What are the limits of accountability/free will?  Are there evils we participate in passively/systematically? Are there people whose wrongdoings we are also responsible for, in our passivity?

April 17:  “A Father’s Story” by Andre Dubus.

April 24: BRING A FAVORITE POEM, ESSAY, MEMOIR, SHORT STORY, NOVEL TO SHARE.
