Liturgical Ministries

“The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; at the same time it is the font from which all her power flows. For the aim and object of apostolic works is that all who are made sons(and daughters) of God by faith and baptism should come together to praise God in the midst of His Church, to take part in the sacrifice, and to eat the Lord’s supper.”  – Sacrosanctum Concilium

Liturgy literally means “the work of the people.” This implies that when the church gathers, we are actively involved in what goes on as we pray.

Our many roles and ministries within the Church’s liturgy follow the spirit and principles of Vatican II. Each parishioner is invited to consider serving in one or more of the following ministries. For more information, please contact the Front Office at 816-523-5115.

All the worshiping faithful are called to full, conscious, and active participation in liturgies. Expressing our faith grows our faith. See Redempionus Sacramentum.

We are especially interested in providing parishioners and visitors with a sense of welcome as they arrive. Greeters also invite parishioners to carry the offertory gifts at each Mass. Individuals and families are invited to this ministry. Schedule is flexible.
The role of Server is open to adults and children, who have received their First Communion and above. Training is required and provided, and schedule is flexible.

Ministers assist with the distribution of Communion at Mass. Some take the Eucharist to the sick and to shut-ins (see Outreach). Candidates must be at least 16 years of age, have received the Sacrament of Confirmation, and be able to attend a training program. Training is provided on an as-needed basis.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy of the Word at all masses, lead the assembly in Prayers of the Faithful. Parishioners high school age and above are invited to serve. Training is provided.

Men and women who assist with washing and ironing linens for use at Mass. Schedules are flexible on a rotation basis.

Prepare all items used for Communion Rite, including communion elements, bread and wine, and other necessary items. After Mass, they wash and put items away.

Ushers assist with seating, take up the collection, and assist with needs during Mass. Men and women of the parish are invited to serve in this ministry. Schedule is flexible
